Clean Ice and Debris covered glaciers of HKH Region

Description

The comprehensive baseline information on the glaciers of the HKH region was generated semi-automatically using more than 200 Landsat 7 ETM+ images of 2005 ± 3 years with minimum cloud and snow coverage. The glacier outlines were derived by using object-based image classification method separately for clean-ice and debris-covered glaciers with some manual intervention. The attribute data were assigned to each glacier using 90m resolution SRTM DEM. This data does not cover the China part.

Cryosphere Knowledge Hub

The Regional Cryosphere Knowledge Hub has been developed through a collaborative effort in order to share and disseminate data and information through a network of national partners in ICIMOD’s regional member countries and beyond. It will serve as a clearinghouse for cryosphere-related data and information for relevant operational services and research activities. This knowledge hub also aims to integrate geospatial data into the platform to support knowledge development and decision making. The Regional Cryosphere Knowledge Hub will build on capacity building efforts in the region and will be an important resource for future generations of scientists. It is anticipated that the Regional Cryosphere Knowledge Hub will contribute to improving and coordinating regional cryosphere data sharing in the long-term and will also contribute to global platforms and international strategies.
