Glaciers of Nepal 2001
This is the first inventory of glaciers of Nepal Himalaya. The data is prepared using topographic maps, aerial photographs and satellite images.
Simple
- Date ( Publication )
- 2001-01-08
- Purpose
- The Himalayan glaciers are natural fresh water reserves. However, these glaciers are retreating resulting, in the long-run, the loss of natural fresh water storage. During the glacier retreat, glacial lakes may also be formed behind the exposed and unstable terminal moraines. There is still no detailed inventory and records of glaciers, glacial lakes, GLOF events and potential GLOF sites in the region. This inventory is designed to start filling this information gap.
